I've seen Tom Petty a few times and the shows were always good. My guitar player friends also really like and respect Campbell.

The only downside to a Tom Petty concert is the "sing-along" factor. The few times I've seen him it seemed like 2/3 of the crowd thought they could sing better than Petty and belted out almost every tune. That drives me nuts.

I've seen TP & the HB's once at the Fillmore in SF during their long runs in the late 90's/early 2000's. It was a very loud concert and I don't recall being annoyed by audience participation. Just another reason to like it loud.

Ew, thanks for the heads up. I can see that happening. I went to a Steve Miller concert and it was pretty much the same story. For SMB it worked, but I think I would want to experience the music more at a TP&HB show. Ever been to a Jimmy Buffett concert? Now there is a sing-along fest.
